Marine waste treatment is one of the major environmental issues. The adverse effects of aquaculture on the marine environment, in particular, are of public concern. Instead of treating shrimp waste, Seafood waste often contains a huge amount of chitin, a polysaccharide that exhibits exceptional inherent characteristics including biocompatibility, biodegradability, antimicrobial, antitumor and antioxidant activities. The development and progress of green extraction processes are gaining more attention, preferring the application of microorganisms and enzymes for the recovery of chitin as it is cleaner, eco-friendly and economic along with the production of chitin and chitosan with desired properties.
